George Thomas’s love Child?

Interesting snippet over at Dale & Co from Jerry Hays about the former House of Commons speaker, Welsh Secretary, Cardiff MP, establishment toady and Nat hater George Thomas in his latest column.

He wrote ‘I heard a fascinating story about former Labour Speaker George Thomas the other day. Thomas was strongly believed to have some strange and unpleasant sexual tastes and was not the most popular man in the Commons, particularly by Labour as he appeared to become besotted with the Tories. However, one of my best friends told me of a confession by his Godmother before she died. She was the illegitimate daughter of Thomas and spent a lifetime trying to contact him. He refused to see her. Pretty shitty behaviour you might think. To her credit she carried that secret to her grave.

Holyrood Political Magazine - where’s the Welsh version?

Not much politics being covered with the Olympics taking centre stage, but this post has been on my mind for a while, Scottish politics is well ahead of Welsh politics in all sorts of areas but one area stands out is the media as Holyrood magazine launched back in 1999 with the new devolution settlement  proves vividly.

Holyrood is a Scottish current affairs and political magazine, published fortnightly by Holyrood Communications a Scottish newspaper and publishing company and available via subscription, it mainly covers the goings on in the Scottish Parliament as well as political interviews and opinion pieces on Scottish politics.

The magazine also has an online presence with free articles, a blog and a host of free digests on issues from Scottish local government, the health service, environment, education and business and the economy. They also arrange conferences on hot issue such as Youth unemployment and integrating healthcare as well as providing a daily political round up from the news from across Scotland.

There’s nothing there that couldn’t be replicated for Welsh politics and who knows it might generate some interest among voters as well as politicos, as well as offering another level of scrutiny to the Welsh Assembly and Welsh Government, after all Holyrood Magazine is available in the National Assembly for Wales Library, so someone is Cardiff Bay sees value in a regular Welsh current affairs and political magazine – do we have any takers?
